Our Story
The founder of City Kidz World magazine and City Kidz World Writing Academy, Dr. Melissa Edwards, won her first writing contest at 8, when she entered the Ice Cream Storytelling Contest for Popcorn Magazine in Richmond, Virginia. The opportunity to write and the validation from winning had a significant impact on Dr. Edwards. The commitment to continue to develop as a writer was born out of that publishing opportunity. Dr. Edwards has a degrees in journalism, communications, and education. She taught secondary E.LA. for six years, has been teaching college English Composition and journalism for 20 years, runs a private E.L.A. center for 13 years, and has been publishing a children's literary magazine for 15 years.
In Dr. Edwards's career in education and writing, she has endeavored to provide that same guidance and publishing opportunities to other children, knowing that for some children, the experience of writing, submitting, and publishing will awaken an ethic that is transferable in every area of their lives.
Writing is not just for writers!
Creativity and writing are an asset in every part of life.
She has worked with children and young adults to publish creative, academic, and journalistic writing for more than 20 years.
